The Pumas Rugby Institute (PRI) is located in one of South Africa’s beloved provinces: Mpumalanga (Zulu name for “the place where the sun rises”).
The Institute is housed within the Mbombela Stadium, which is home to the Airlink Pumas – the 2022 Currie Cup champions. Here at the PRI, our student-athletes share the environment with the Professional Senior Pumas squad and rub shoulders with them on a daily basis. The Institute and the professionals same facilities: the fields, gym, physio room, team rooms and recreation areas. By sharing the same space as the professionals, our student-athletes are given the opportunity to cultivate a purpose-driven athletic experience and see exactly what it takes to make it to the top!
Mbombela Stadium is situated in the picturesque Lowveld region of Nelspruit, the capital city of Mpumalanga. It lies along the Crocodile River, among domed granite hills. The Lowveld botanical gardens, which are located just outside of the town, boasts a rare collection of plant species and the first man-made rain forests. The nearby Sudwala caves, dinosaur park and cultural centre are “must-sees” during your time in the province!
There are several beautiful nature and hiking trails are in the vicinity of Nelspruit and a 1-hour historical trail acquaints you with the architectural and cultural history of the town – there’s no better way to get active!
