UXi Sport identified the need for a Rugby Athlete Transformational Development platform designed for rugby players not able to, or who choose not to, access the traditional university streams. The current South African economy is in desperate need of employable graduates in sectors where scarce skills have been identified.

The UXi Rugby Institutes offer a High Performance Rugby Development Programme in conjunction with an academic qualification, and mental and life skills coaching. The programme allows for optimum development in the sport of rugby within a disciplined structure and provides the student with an opportunity to grow holistically as an individual, while completing a qualification through accredited providers, that will ensure employability during and also after rugby.

Through our comprehensive sport programme we develop individuals with key attributes and qualities that offer work-readiness and most importantly an embedded work ethic, that is driven by a dedicated professional team, that INSPIRES GREATNESS!

How it started

UXi Sport recognised the void in the U/20 rugby landscape of South Africa, where little to no provision is made for athletes who were not contracted directly from the amateur streams, or have not received bursaries to Higher Education pathways through the traditional models. Only a few young aspirant and talented players have had exposure to quality coaching and high-performance facilities. For many the playing fields are not level when competing against players from well-organised and equipped structures. The identification of this void promoted the implementation of a professional and sustainable pathway, which stimulates a young athlete, not only physically, but also mentally and spiritually. The UXi Sport Rugby Institute model, which is placed directly within the Rugby Unions across various South African provinces, provides for a disciplined structure that focuses not only on the holistic sport development of a talented player, but also on the personal development plan of every player-athlete, that will ensure a vocational career for a life in and after sport.

A three-year structured programme presented by highly skilled union approved coaches and sport scientists, ensure development in every area of high-performance sport aptitude, attitude and skills. UXi Sport has formed strategic partnerships with education partners that provide scarce skills development in the economic sectors of Sport, Artisan Trades, Agriculture, IT, Marketing and Management in a one-stop environment.

Emphasis is placed on producing “work-ready” employees within our country. In the words of Nelson Mandela: “Sport has the power to change the world, it has power to inspire. It has the power to unite people in a way that little else does. It speaks to the youth in a language they understand.” Sport can change an individual from the inside out, create better leaders, employees, community leaders and inspired South African citizens that are able to provide for their families and make a difference in their communities.

UXi Rugby Institutes develop and drive toughness, adaptability, accountability, ownership and sacrifice within its player athletes. These attributes are critically needed in life and the workplace. The sport is also in need of skilled coaches, fitness instructors, physical educators, referees, administrators, marketing and digital experts, video and game analysts to be deployed at all levels of amateur rugby. NOW is the time to build capacity within sport for the next generation of rugby professionals.

UXi Sport has been successful in establishing various UXi Rugby Institutes in 6 provinces across the country. The High Performance Rugby Programme is identical throughout the country, therefore providing students with unique opportunities: to be exposed to various world-class rugby coaches across the country; to travel our beautiful country via rugby; to be compared to those students at the other UXi Rugby Institutes for self-improvement purposes; to be noticed by various rugby unions – all achieved without any interruptions to the HP Rugby Programme, Mental and Life Skills Programme, and the Academic Qualification.
