From facing childhood challenges to chasing rugby dreams, Juandre le Roux’s journey is nothing short of inspiring. Here’s a glimpse into his rugby story:
In the world of rugby, few stories shine as brightly as Juandre le Roux’s remarkable journey. His love affair with the sport began in grade 1, a young boy with big dreams and an unyielding spirit. Despite facing early challenges and relentless doubt from others, Juandre’s heart was set on rugby.
The turning point arrived in grade 4 when he decided to overhaul his eating habits and commit to rigorous training. It was a daunting endeavour, but Juandre’s determination knew no bounds. By grade 5, he had earned a coveted spot on the first team, but critics still lingered. It was the unwavering support of Coach Karemaker that bolstered his resolve.
A life-altering moment arrived when Coach Karemaker extended an invitation to Juandre to attend the Diamandveld High School rugby camp. From that moment, his path in rugby began to take shape. Throughout his high school years, Coach Karemaker remained a constant source of motivation, pushing Juandre to reach new heights.
Rugby inspiration struck in the form of Ox Nche, a player who had overcome adversity and risen to represent the green and gold. At UXi, Juandre forged enduring friendships that would serve as a wellspring of inspiration both on and off the field.
The Cheetahs U/19 tournament marked Juandre’s entry into competitive rugby, followed by a transformative eXperience tour with UXi Cheetahs Institute of Excellence. Playing through a painful pulled rib muscle, he learned the invaluable lesson of resilience. Under the guidance of CIE’s coaches, Juandre honed his skills and pushed his limits. Challenges and setbacks were woven into the fabric of his journey, but his indomitable spirit prevailed.
Throughout this remarkable journey, Juandre’s parents stood by his side, their sacrifices serving as the bedrock of his determination. Coach Simon Askew emerged as a pivotal figure, offering guidance and support during the toughest times.
The fundamental attribute of a successful rugby player, Juandre believes, is an unwavering commitment to never giving up, an unrelenting work ethic, and the willingness to learn from coaches and mentors. Beyond the sport, rugby instilled in Juandre a sense of discipline, respect, and an unyielding work ethic. It became more than a game; it became a way of life.
Looking ahead, Juandre’s sights are set on securing a senior rugby contract, for he cannot fathom a life without the sport he loves. His advice for aspiring players: Embrace coachability, dedicate yourself to hard work, and transform negativity into motivation. Believe in your capabilities, and success will inevitably follow.
To the future generation of CIE student-athletes, Juandre imparts this wisdom: “Trust in your coaches and the system, for greatness awaits those who give their all.”
Thanks to UXi CIE, Juandre has amassed memories and opportunities that have moulded his rugby journey into the extraordinary tale it is today. Gratitude abounds for this unforgettable ride!
