GRIQUAS RUGBY INSTITUTE
Kimberley, Northern Cape
The Griquas Rugby Institute (GRI) is housed at the heart of Kimberley – the Windhoek Draught Park!
Home to the Windhoek Draught Griquas, the stadium is one of the town’s greatest treasures. Here at the GRI, our student-athletes share the stadium with the professional Griquas team. We share the same facilities, such as the fields, gym, physio room, team rooms and recreation areas. The GRI provides a one-stop shop for players, with all the facilities being available at the Windhoek Draught Park and also many interaction with the professional senior players.
Kimberley is the capital city of the Northern Cape and surrounded by five of South Africa’s big rivers, two of them being the Orange and Vaal Rivers. Kimberley is a prospecting city famous for its quality diamonds, the largest man-made excavation in the world and impressive variety of tourists attractions.
Kimberley is renowned for the “Big Hole”, which is 1.5 km in circumference. This, in fact, is the old Kimberley Mine, which was the richest diamond-producing mine in the world! However, the true heart and soul of this city is its REAL diamonds – their rugby team…THE GRIQUAS!
